Deşi au trecut atâţia ani de când s-a produs nenorocirea, oamenii se cam feresc să vorbească despre ceea ce au trăit atunci. Nu, nu este o amintire plăcută. Doamna Liliana Pop, pensionară, în vârstă de 67 de ani, chiar mă ia la rost: „Dar ce ţi-a venit să mă întrebi despre asta, maică? Nu vedeţi câte nenorociri se întâmplă acum în lume? Când îmi aduc aminte mă ia cu fiori. Eram liniştiţi, în familie, ne uitam la un film bulgăresc, fetiţa mea sărea în pat şi tocmai de aceea nu ne-am dat seama din prima clipă ce se întâmplă. Abia când s-a auzit huruitul acela înfiorător, ne-am dat seama că nu e în regulă. Au început să se mişte toate mobilele în casă, veneau spre noi. Nu ştiam ce să facem. Întotdeauna în faţa nenorocirilor zici că eşti pregătit, dar când vin peste tine parcă eşti statuie şi nu te poţi mişca. Stăteam în blocul în care stăm şi acum, pe Calea Griviţei. Soţul meu urla să nu ieşim din casă, să stăm sub tocul uşilor!”

Fetiţa aceea care sărea în pat are acum 40 de ani. Elena Pop, deşi un copil pe atunci, îşi aduce aminte: „Prima dată am crezut că tata şi mama s-au speriat că a ieşit un gândac de sub pat! A nu se înţelege că aveam casa plină de gândaci…”, subliniază, cu umor, Elena. „Nu îmi iese din cap faptul că afară era o lună ireală, fantastică, oarecum înfricoşătoare. Fusese o zi caldă de martie, seara la fel. Am ieşit afară în pijămăluţa mea de copil, cu o jucărie în mână, neştiind exact ce se întâmplă, şi foarte uimită că văd atâţia vecini simpatici în cămăşi de noapte, halate sau pijamale!” „Când s-a mai liniştit, am ieşit din casă şi am coborât pe scări, de la etajul cinci. Blocul încă se mai clătina lin, parcă era pe valuri”, completează mama Elenei. „Am ieşit în stradă, tot cartierul era afară! A început bursa zvonurilor: că o să vină unul şi mai mare, că Ceauşescu ar fi murit, era plecat într-o vizită oficială în străinătate, în Nigeria, dacă îmi aduc bine aminte. Vă daţi seama, nenorocirile, ca şi zvonurile se derulează de-a lungul timpului aproape după acelaşi tipar”, râde, acum mai degajată, doamna Liliana. „De parcă undacutremurului se propagase până în Nigeria şi îl terminase exact pe Ceauşescu! Lăsând gluma la o parte, la un moment dat a fost şi pană de curent în Bucureşti, mai târziu am aflat ştiri din centrul oraşului: blocul de la Continental era terminat, blocul de la cofetăriaCasata se prăbuşise… Oamenii care veneau din centru vorbeau despre ceva apocaliptic: bulevardul Magheru – Bălcescu jale, Dunăreajale, spaimă, lacrimi.

Soldaţi, câtă frunză şi iarbă, pompieri, cascadori şi… câini dresaţi s-au luptat cu munţii de moloz, pentru a căuta supravieţuitori.

Atunci a venit vestea despre Doina Badea, o artistă la care ţineam foarte mult, şi nu numai eu, majoritatea românilor. Atunci a venit vestea despre Toma Caragiu, un actor foarte apreciat. Atunci s-au dus, în mod tragic, o mulţime de oameni, fie ei simpli sau artişti, care mai puteau să trăiască mult şi bine. Nu realizezi decât în asemenea momente care sunt lucrurile cu adevărat importante în viaţă. De asta e bine să nu laşi să treacă pe lângă tine oameni minunaţi, poveşti frumoase. Nu se ştie când vor mai reveni”. Doamna Liliana oftează şi se întoarce cu povestea la acea noapte. „Între timp ne refugiasem la o mătuşă care stătea la curte, în spatele blocului nostru. Toată noaptea am ascultat la radio ce se mai întâmplă, au mai fost nişte replici peste noapte. Specialiştii explicau că a fost vorba despre o combinaţie a undelor seismice verticale şi orizontale şi că durata de peste un minut l-a făcut să fie unul dintre cele mai distrugătoare cutremure din lume. A doua zi nu m-am dus la muncă.

La televizor îl arătau pe Ceauşescu printre dărâmături, deja ajutoarele veneau din străinătate, câinii dresaţi special erau în căutarea supravieţuitorilor, pompierii, soldaţii, săracii de ei, făceau tot posibilul. Cascadorii munceau de parcă erau scoşi din minţi, ajutau la scoaterea cadavrelor, mai ales la blocul unde s-au prăpădit Toma Caragiu şi Alexandru Bocăneţ. Nu îmi aduc aminte să fi avut mari probleme în ceea ce priveşte alimentele etc. Blocul nostru nu a fost foarte afectat, deşi unele crăpături se mai pot vedea şi acum, dar mi-e teamă că nu mai îmi aduc bine aminte şi s-ar putea să nu fie de atunci, ci să se fi lărgit doar la cutremurele de peste ani. Dacă ar fi să se mai întâmple acum ce s-a întâmplat atunci am fi nenorociţi! Scuzaţi-mi expresia, că sunt femeie bătrână, dar suntem varză! Nu cred că mai suntem capabili acum de o mobilizare asemănătoare celei de atunci. Şi nu este vorba despre nostalgii ceauşiste aici. Crezi că autorităţile de acum au resurse?!?”

Nu, nu cred!
