Eram în casa noastră, dintr-un orăşel la nord de Tokyo, pe data de 11 martie, la ora 14:46. Atunci a început şi am crezut că este un cutremur ca oricare altul.

Cel mai mare cutremur din istorie

Zguduitura devenea din ce în ce mai puter­nică. Statuetele de pe mobilă au căzut aproape toate. Si cutremurul nu se mai termina… Căţelul era deja în curte. Am alergat prin casă după motan, l-am băgat în cuşca lui si am ieşit cu soţul meu şi pisica în curte. Nu pot să spun că m-am speriat din cale-afară. Ca români, sun­tem obişnuiţi cu cutremurele, deşi nu tot atât cât japonezii. Dar după primul cutremur, au urmat altele două şi credeam că n-o să se mai termine vreodată. După ce a părut că se ter­mină, totuşi, am intrat în casă şi am dat drumul la televizor. Au anunţat iniţial un cutremur de magnitudine 8. Ulterior, cifra aceasta s-a schimbat şi a ajuns la magnitudine 9, fiind de departe cel mai mare cutremur din istoria Japoniei. La televizor imediat au anunţat că este pericol de tsunami şi toată lumea care locuieşte în apropierea ţărmului să se refugieze. Din fericire, noi suntem departe de ocean. Aşa a fost acea zi, la sfârşitul căreia au anunţat vreo 50 de morţi.

De-abia a doua zi aveam să aflăm cât de grave au fost lucrurile şi nici chiar atunci. Deşi casele japoneze sunt rezistente şi nu s-au dărâ­mat de la cutremur, în regiunile de litoral a făcut prăpăd tsunami – Valul Uriaş.

Nu neapărat numărul mare de refugiaţi în urma cutremurului care a afectat regiunile Tohoku şi Kanto de Nord este cel impresio­nant. Japonia este o ţară relativ bine pregătită în caz de dezastru şi era stabilit deja un număr destul de mare de locuri de refugiu pe tot cuprinsul ţării. Aceste locuri, fie că sunt centre culturale sau şcoli, adăpostesc acum un număr uriaş de supravieţuitori din zonele calamitate. Dar, repet, nu numărul mare mă impre­sionează, ci condiţiile precare de trai ale fiecăruia dintre ei. Si toţi riscă să stea acolo pe o perioadă foarte îndelungată. Apoi mă impre­sionează câteva cazuri. Văd la televizor o băbuţă care-şi caută fiica printre numele de pe un panou cu persoane care au fost găsite. Nu o găseşte. Îi spune reporterului că fiica, atunci când a venit autobuzul să ia persoanele care trebuiau evacuate de pe litoral înainte de un tsunami anunţat, s-a dus să caute pisica. N-a mai ajuns la autobuz. Apoi este cazul unui băr­bat de 74 de ani care a fost depistat de un eli­copter pe o bârnă de acoperiş plutind pe apa lăsată în urma Valului. A fost recuperat, după ce a plutit pe bârna de acoperiş mai bine de două zile şi două nopţi. Era fericit că a scăpat, dar mai puţin fericit pentru soţia lui rămasă în urmă. Mai este cazul unui cuplu care-şi caută rudele urmărit de o echipă de reporteri. Ajung în final în satul lor în urma dezastrului şi descoperă casa care este la pământ. Sub dărâmături se vede o mână. Este mâna per­soanei pe care o căutau în special şi care, bineînţeles, că nu mai este în viaţă.

Chiar dacă au în fiecare zi câte un cutremur, japonezii îşi văd liniştiţi (că asta e culmea!) de treburile lor.

Un bilanţ înfiorător:

peste 11.000 de morţi descoperiţi şi peste 17.000 de persoane dispărute.
