„Radioterapia este un aspect foarte important în tratarea cancerului. în ultimii ani am asistat la apariţia unor noi tehnologii, a unor noi aparate medicale cum ar fi LINAC (Linear Accelerator), un aparat de radioterapie care poate trata pacienţii fără să afecteze ţesuturile normale, distribuind, totodată, doze importante către tumoră. Astfel, am obţinut un control mult mai mare asupra localizării radioterapiei şi, odată cu creşterea eficienţei terapiei, am reuşit să avem un impact pozitiv asupra calităţii vieţii pacientului. Un alt aparat este Cyber Knife, care este folosit pentru radio-chirur- gia stereotactică, ceea ce înseamnă tratamentul sau ablaţia ţesuturilor tumorale din creier sau de pe creier.” în timp ce vorbeşte despre Cyber Knife, Prof. Ozyar nu mai rezistă să stea la birou, se ridică şi ne conduce în cabinetul în care, în spatele unor uşi grele de metal de câteva tone, tocmai are loc un tratament. Observăm de la distanţă desfăşurarea procedurii. Medicul supervizează calibrarea aparatului, dă indicaţii unei asistente, tastează câteva comenzi pe calculator. Ceva nu funcţionează cum trebuie. Intră pentru câteva clipe la pacient şi-l roagă, cu o voce blândă, să nu se mişte preţ de câteva minute. E important. Aparatul sesizează mişcarea si nu poate să-şi înceapă ciclul. Lucrurile revin la normal iar noi aflăm că „Cyber Knife tratează leziuni care nu pot fi rezolvate prin chirurgie clasică. Este o metodă de mare precizie, cu o acurateţe de sub 1 mm. Tratamentul constă în 1-5 şedinţe a câte 20-60 minute fiecare, în funcţie de afecţiune. Efectele secundare sunt minimale iar rata de succes extrem de bună. Combinat cu o etapă de diagnosticare foarte precisă a bolii cu PET-CT, Cyber Knife oferă şanse reale pacienţilor care, înainte de apariţia acestor aparate, mureau din cauza bolii şi a tratamentelor neadecvate.”

Deci, e aproape un spital universitar, cu o echipare medicală perfectă, cu toate uneltele de diagnostic necesare. Laboratoarele noastre ne dau rezultatele foarte rapid, lucru important pentru pacienţii din străinătate. In plus, avem o unitate de neonatologie extrem de specială, în care pot fi rezolvate cazurile de naşteri premature sau de nou-născuţi cu probleme. Este foarte important să descoperi problema la timp – acest lucru face toată diferenţa în rata de supravieţuire în cazul bolilor maligne. De asemenea, este foarte important să ai un bun diagnostic, să ştii în ce stagiu al bolii este pacientul, pentru a putea stabili planul de tratament adecvat.”

Ozlem Ereste profesor de oncologie. Vorbeşte rar, e calma, inspiră încredere. Ne spune că „întotdeauna trebuie analizat istoricul pacientului. Trebuie să ai în vedere toate analizele, să ştii cu certitudine ceea ce s-a întâmplat, pentru a putea determina cum acţionezi pe viitor. Şi, foarte important, trebuie să ai încredere. Medicina a evoluat iar la Aciba- dem suntem la curent cu toate descoperirile majore din lume, avem acces la toate informaţiile de care avem nevoie. Cancerul nu trebuie să mai fie privit drept o boală fără soluţii.”

Sigur, e nevoie de timp.” Incearcă, fără să se laude, să-şi explice succesul: „Aici, la Acibadem Maslak, există un grup foarte important de neurochirurgie care acoperă toate specializările. Avem echipe multidisciplinare care se întrunesc după operaţie şi stabilesc tratamentele pentru fiecare caz. In colaborare cu departamentul de neurologie realizăm o atentă monitorizare neuromotorie pentru toţi pacienţii. Succesul nostru ţine de experienţa pe care o avem şi de colaborarea multidisciplinară. Si mai e ceva ce aş vrea să vă spun: pe de o parte, există experienţa grupului Acibadem iar pe de alta, experienţa noastră medicală. Atunci când aceste două lucruri se unesc, apare cheia succesului. E foarte bine să ai o echipă pe care să te bazezi.”
