Medicii veterinari de peste hotare

Dacă înainte de instaurarea comunismului, absolvenţii Facultăţii de Medicină Veterinară din Bucureşti rămâneau, majoritatea, în România pentru a profesa, după 1947 unii dintre aceştia au părăsit ţara ori de câte ori au avut posibilitatea să o facă. Din motive în cea mai mare parte a lor politice şi sociale, un număr de medici veterinari români au emigrat în Occident.

Procentul cel mai ridicat de cadre didactice şi absolvenţi care au decis să se stabilească în Apus a fost reprezentat de medicii de etnie germană de la şcolile de medicină veterinară din vestul ţării – Arad, Timişoara, dar au plecat în Germania, Israel, SUA, Canada, Ungaria, Franţa, Spania, Marea Britanie etc. şi unii medici veterinari pregătiţi la FMV Bucureşti. Ei s-au afirmat în ţările unde s-au naturalizat şi au activat sporind prestigiul instituţiei care i-a pregătit. Numai în perioada 1966-1981 au plecat peste 70 de absolvenţi şi cadre didactice ai FMVB.

Dintre absolvenţii FMVB care s-au afirmat în mod deosebit în noua lor patrie făcând cinste ţării lor natale şi şcolii veterinare româneşti nu se poate să nu-i amintim pe profesorii universitari Constantinescu M. Gheorghe de la Universitatea Missouri- Columbia, SUA, Konig Horst de la FMV din Viena – Austria, şi Elias Ervin de la Universitatea Ben Gurion – Beersheba, Israel. Toţi trei s-au remarcat în mod deosebit pe plan internaţional.

M. Gheorghe Constantinescu – nepotul fondatorului geneticii româneşti, Gh. K. Constantinescu – după absolvirea cursurilor FMVB a lucrat ca şef de laborator, sub conducerea profesorului V. Gheţie până în 1962, după care a fost trimis în producţie ca medic veterinar de circumscripţie în judeţul Vran- cea. A revenit în învăţământul superior de profil ca profesor la Facultatea de Medicină Veterinară din Timişoara, după care, în 1984, a emigrat în SUA, unde a devenit profesor la Universitatea Columbia-Missouri.

Numărul medicilor veterinari români care s-au afirmat peste hotare este mare, mai ales că mulţi absolvenţi ai FMV Bucureşti au emigrat, inclusiv după 1989. Profesorii Constantinescu, Konig, Elias, Oneţ şi Meţianu sunt însă figurile marcante ale medicinii veterinare româneşti din diasporă.

Peste Ocean, profesorul Constantinescu s-a distins prin erudiţia sa publicând numeroase lucrări, rezultate din cercetările sale şi ilustrate chiar de el. Este remarcabilă lucrarea sa ilustrată Guid for Large Animals în care, pe lângă mesajul ştiinţific transmis, cititorul descoperă 504 ilustraţii originale, semnate M. Gh. Constantinescu. Pentru contribuţia sa ştiinţifică în domeniul medicinii veterinare, FMV Timişoara şi FMV Bucureşti i-au acordat titlul de Doctor Honoris Causa.

Activităţile cotidiene, specifice profesiei, nu l-au împiedicat pe M. Gh. Constantinescu, aflat astăzi la College of Veterinary Medicine University of Missouri, să îşi dedice o parte din timp unor preocupări artistice. Astfel, a realizat o serie de busturi şi grupuri statuare interesante, dintre care amintim grupul de basoreliefuri, aşezat simbolic în holul central al FMV Timişoara sau realizarea busturilor valorosului genetician Gh. K. Constantinescu şi al celebrului fiziolog român de talie internaţională Ion Athanasiu, din Bucureşti.

O altă figură marcantă a profesorilor universitari, absolvenţi ai FMV Bucureşti, care şi-au desfăşurat activitatea în diasporă, este Elias Ervin, care a predat pâna la pensionare la Facultatea de Medicină a Universităţii Ben Gurion – Beersheba din Israel, unde s-a impus prin profunzimea cunoştinţelor dobândite în şcoala românească de medicină veterinară.

Oneţ G. Emil este un alt absolvent eminent al şcolii de medicină veterinară bucu- reştene, care, după ce şi-a susţinut doctoratul în microbiologie la FMV Cluj, a fost beneficiarul unei Burse Humboldt – Germania şi a desfăşurat o meritorie activitate ştiinţifică în Germania în 1970-1971. Revine în ţară până în 1985, când se stabileşte definitiv în Statele Unite, unde deţine, la început, funcţia de coordonator de grup la Grand Laboratories Central de diagnostic veterinar din Richmond

Virginia, iar din 1996 devine coordonator ştiinţific al National Institute for Discovery Science din Las Vegas – Nevada. Profesorul Oneţ a publicat peste 200 de titluri de lucrări ştiinţifice, şase manuale universitare şi cărţi de specialitate. A primit premiul Academiei Române – 1985, Distinguished Leadership Award– SUA, 1996, Lifetime Royal Patronage
Australia, 1997, Medalia pentru progresul Medicinii Veterinare – România, 1997, Award of Recogultion – SUA, 1998 şi Outstanding Achievement Award – SUA, 1998. Emil G.

Au mai contribuit la cercetarea veterinară mondială, dar sub steagul altor ţări:

Doina Ciurea – astăzi activează în Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Center for Labor Animal Science New York, Miron Costin, un clinician de elită, Stângă Adrian, toţi trei emigranţi în SUA, Paul Dobrescu, specializat în stomatologie veterinară, activează în Germania, Lucia Dobrescu, specialist care s-a remarcat în cercetarea veterinară la Bruxelles, Belgia şi alţii.

Oneţ s-a implicat puternic, de asemenea, în viaţa comunităţilor, contribuind la afirmarea valorilor româneşti în străinătate. Este fondatorul societăţii Doina a românilor din Las Vegas. Colaborator sau chiar membru în colective de redacţie, a publicat 427 de articole în patru publicaţii româneşti din SUA – Origini, Meridianul Românesc, New York Magazin şi Micromagazin. De asemenea, Oneţ este autorul a două volume care evocă viaţa de emigrant: în căutarea libertăţii – 1999, Cluj-Napoca (autobiografie) respectiv Drumul vieţii – 2002, Cluj-Napoca. Ca profesorii Oneţ sau Constantinescu, fie ei adoptaţi de alte ţări, fie rămaşi în patria natală, mulţi absolvenţi ai FMV Bucureşti au cochetat cu artele. Unii au sculptat, alţii au pictat, iar alţii s-au dedicat literaturii sau ziaristicii precum dr. Elias Erwin care a desfăşurat o intensă activitate jurnalistică în Israel (profesor la Universitatea Ben Gurion – Beersheba).

încă o figură marcantă a profesioniştilor absolvenţi ai FMV Bucureşti care şi-au desfăşurat activitatea în diasporă este profesorul Tiberius Meţianu, care a lucrat o perioadă la Institutul de Cercetări Veterinare şi Biopreparate Pasteur până în 1948, apoi ca profesor la FMV Bucureşti până în 1961. Profesorul Meţianu a fost transferat la Laboratorul judeţean din Cluj şi la scurt timp a emigrat în Franţa, unde a lucrat la Laboratorul Central de la Alfort între anii 1960 şi 1970, apoi la Institutul Pasteur din Paris între 1977 şi 1986, după care a predat parazitologia la Şcoala Naţională de Medicină Veterinară din Paris.
