Audi A1, anunţat drept concurent pentru Mini, poate fi comandat şi din România, dar livrările vor întârzia până în luna septembrie. Noul Audi este un model din clasa compactă mică, lansat în această primăvară la Salonul Auto de la Geneva şi primit cu mare interes datorită aerului sport-premium pe care îl aduce în acest segment. În plus, el este cel mai accesibil model din gama constructorului german şi deschide marca spre un număr important de cumpărători noi.

Dar A1 nu este prima încercare a lui Audi în clasa mică. Chiar şi pe străzile din România se găsesc câteva modele din neobişnuitul A2. Se pare că undeva la sfârşitul anilor ‘90 atât Mercedes, cât şi Audi considerau că viitorul automobilelor mici este mai luminos dacă au o formă de monovolum. Aşa se face că ambii producători au lansat ceva în acest segment şi au apărut

A Classe şi A2. Modelul Mercedes a trecut de un milion de exemplare, dar micuţul Audi construit integral din aluminiu a fost o dezamăgire, cu numai 176.000 de unităţi produse în şase ani (1999–2005). Şi motivele nu au ţinut de calităţile maşinii, elogiate chiar de multe reviste, ci mai degrabă de forma sa şi de preţul foarte mare generat de producţia scumpă.

Vremea a trecut şi constructorul din Ingolstadt a învăţat din greşeli. Noul său model cu tracţiune faţă foloseşte o platformă VW comună pentru Polo, Ibiza şi Fabia pe care susţine că a îmbunătăţit-o pentru a obţine performanţele dinamice specifice mărcii.

Designul lui A1 este marcat de caracterul de coupé cu două portiere. Elementele de stil care poziţionează modelul în familia Audi includ linia laterală cu arcul distinctiv al plafonului, montanţii C asemănători cu cei utilizaţi pentru un model coupé, pasajele mari ale roţilor şi, desigur, partea frontală cu grila radiatorului single-frame, specifică mărcii. Luminile din spate sunt modelate tridimensional şi au un design distinctiv, atât la rularea pe timp de zi, cât şi pe timp de noapte.

Interiorul este spaţios şi aerisit. Panoul de instrumente evocă o aripă de avion; cele patru duze de ventilaţie rotunde pentru admisia aerului sunt inspirate de turbinele unui avion cu reacţie. Caracterul ergonomic, alături de montajele şi finisajele ireproşabile, sunt tipice pentru standardele înalte ale mărcii Audi. Numeroasele detalii de design ale interiorului confirmă caracterul premium al modelului german.

Mergând pe noile tendinţe ale acestei clase, şi A1 permite personalizarea interiorului în mai multe nuanţe de culori, inclusiv a capitonajul arcului plafonului. Un avantaj important este şi acela că multe dintre aceste elemente se pot comanda chiar şi după cumpărarea automobilului.

Audi a pregătit pentru clienţii săi o gamă de motorizări formată din patru propulsoare cu patru cilindri, două motoare TDI şi două TFSI pe benzină, ce dezvoltă o putere între 86 CP şi 122 CP. Toate motoarele respectă principiul reducerii dimensiunilor şi sunt prevăzute cu turbocompresoare şi sistem de injecţie directă de carburant. Motorul 1.6 TDI, care dezvoltă o putere de 66 kW (90 CP) şi este echipat cu transmisie manuală, emite numai 99 g de CO2/km. Toate motoarele sunt echipate cu un sistem de recuperare a energiei de frânare, fiind cuplate la un sistem automat start-stop. Un sistem nou de gestionare a temperaturii, având o pompă de apă conectată, contribuie la scăderea consumului de carburant al motorului 1.2 TFSI. Cel mai puternic motor disponibil în acest moment (1,4 TFSI – 122 CP) propulsează maşina până la 100 km/h în 9,1 secunde şi asigură o viteză maximă de 200 km/h.

Cel mai ieftin A1 (1,2 TFSI, 86 CP) are un preţ de pornire de 16.500 de euro inclusiv TVA şi, deşi are o echipare de siguranţă foarte bogată (inclusiv ESP), nu este dotat cu aer condiţionat. Acest opţional se poate comanda pentru aproximativ 1.000 de euro inclusic TVA. În ciuda preţului piperat, A1 este pe val şi, conform informaţiilor existente, nu va avea nici o problemă să vândă la capacitatea producţiei. Concurenţa principală, adică Mini, a îmbătrânit, iar Alfa MiTo şi Citroën DS3 nu au acelaşi caracter vădit premium, deşi sunt automobile cu personalităţi puternice.
