Despre tablourile lui Paul Rădulescu am mai scris în urmă cu 35 de ani. Tot în revista Flacăra. Tocmai absolvise Institutul de Arte Plastice din Bucureşti, clasa profesorului Gheorghe Şaru. Atunci i-am remarcat siguranţa desenului, precizia combinării culorilor, dorinţa de a se exprima limpede, astfel încât mesajul lui să emoţioneze de la o primă privire. Dar, mai ales, m-a im?presionat redarea pe pânză a unor fră?mân?tări autentice, mărturie a unui suflet de tânăr artist, care nu minte şi nu se minte.

N-am ştiut nimic despre el multă vreme. De curând, mi-a dat un telefon şi m-a invitat să-i văd expoziţia deschisă la Cărtureşti: „Voyage de aproape“. L-am regăsit cu aceeaşi vocaţie a prieteniei şi cu aceleaşi puternice arderi lăuntrice, vorbind cu patimă despre arta sa şi a altora. Aşa am aflat şi despre lungul său popas în Franţa. Dar nu „Oraşul lumină“ l-a tulburat cel mai mult, ci istoria românilor şi a planetei. Pastelurile cu tempera, lucrările în tuş sau cărbune povestesc despre noi, cei de aici, marcaţi de un regim tota?litar, de vărsarea de sânge din ’89, dar şi despre cei de prin alte părţi, ameninţaţi permanent de spectrul terorismului. Şi totuşi, nimic încrâncenat în relatarea lui, pusă sub o pavăză de discreţie şi bună-cuviinţă.

Ce diferenţă între pictorul de acum peste trei decenii şi cel de azi! Primul scruta cutezător tenebrele, cu spe?ranţa că ele se vor risipi ca într-un miracol, ca la un semn cu o baghetă magică. Paul Rădulescu din „Voyage de aproape“ este mai puţin încrezător, înfrângerea forţelor Răului părându-i acum o confruntare de durată şi cu multe jertfe, o cale cu ocolişuri, la capătul căreia, totuşi, fiinţa umană se va salva.
