UNICEF România a iniţiat, în perioada 15 decembrie 2010-15 ianuarie 2011, prima sa campanie de strângere de fonduri online – Viitorul copiilor începe la şcoală, pentru prevenirea abandonului şcolar.
Campania a debutat pe microsite-ul www.sustineunicef.ro, în cadrul căruia sunt prezentate poveştile unor copii vulnerabili, dornici să ajungă la şcoală şi să participe activ la procesul de învăţare, precum şi un formular online care să faciliteze donaţiile, indiferent de sumă.
Până acum, iniţiativa UNICEF a trezit interesul a 27.000 de prieteni de pe pagina de Facebook si peste 15.000 de vizitatori pe www.sustineunicef.ro. Prin acest proiect, UNICEF a ales un nou canal de comunicare şi strângere de fonduri ce poate aduce avantaje concrete viitoarelor campanii. Această strategie s-a dovedit utilă şi în cazul strângerilor de fonduri online, care s-a desfăşurat printr-un sistem de plată funcţional şi transparent (Gecad E- payment). Tot în social media, cu precădere pe Facebook, au fost postate filmuleţe din viaţa lui Ion, unul dintre miile de copii care îşi doresc cu ardoare să meargă la şcoală şi să îşi construiască un viitor mai bun. De asemenea, mediul online a facilitat diseminarea mesajului şi chiar a atras o serie de bloggeri care au împărtăşit mesajul cu diverse comunităţi în care activează. În acest sens, a avut loc o iniţiativă specifică acestui mediu, o leapşă, a cărei finalitate s-a concretizat în 26 de poveşti inspiraţionale care demonstrează beneficiile educaţiei, ce vor apărea publicate ulterior într-o carte electronică, disponibilă pentru download.
