Creta: întoarcerea Minotaurului

Am plecat în Creta nebănuind că un mit se poate întoarce. Şi încă din vechime. Din Antichitate. Când Teodor Călimănescu, de la agenţia de turism Europa Travel (www.europatravel.ro) mi-a sugerat „varianta Creta“, nici prin gând nu mi-a trecut că acolo se află rădăcinile Greciei tradiţionale, cea arhaică, ancestrală, poate un pic mai pauperă şi mai primitivă decât restul Greciei, dar, în aceeaşi măsură, fascinantă. Nu e un sejur care să te sece la buzunar (preţurile încep de la 291 de euro), aşa că a fost îndestul de uşor să mă gândesc că, pentru cea mai mare insulă grecească, ar putea fi chiar un chilipir. Zis şi făcut. Am zburat cu avionul până la aeroportul aflat în apropiere de Herakleion, capitala insulei. Aeroportul se numeşte chiar Nikos Kazantzakis, pentru simplul motiv că autorul de Nobel chiar în această insulă s-a născut. De acolo, am poposit la Ammoudara, la un hotel de trei stele, Georgia. De aici începe aventura cretană.

La gheaţa berilor în floare

Aproape că nu ştii cu ce să începi. Ai la dispoziţie Fodele, unde poţi vedea casa lui El Greco. Sau Rethimnon, un orăşel cât se poate de pitoresc, „presărat“ pe muchia de nord-vest a insulei. Sau palatul din Knossos, aproape obligatoriu de trecut pe lista de to do – şi chiar în frunte. La o distanţă de câteva ore cu vaporul, o altă insulă fascinantă, Santorini, unde poţi ajunge în vizită de o zi. Sau mai multe. Cred că ar trebui să încep, totuşi, cu Palatul din Knossos. Acolo unde ar trebui să fie „acasă la Minotaur“. Adică la doar şapte kilometri de la ieşirea din Capitală.

Poţi să închiriezi o maşină sau poţi să iei excursiile „din pachet“ (preţurile încep de la aproximativ 30 de euro). Oricum ai face, tot pe urmele lui El Greco, Kazantzakis, Zorba Grecul sau Zeus în persoană o să dai, căci ei sunt personajele principale ale insulei. Mai ai o variantă: să te apuci să hoinăreşti peste tot, aşa cum am făcut şi noi, de altfel, deşi am luat şi o excursie în Santorini, precum am închiriat şi o maşină (Hyundai Getz, 40 euro/zi). Dar ceea ce poţi vedea mai întâi şi, fără îndoială, merită, este Creta Rurală. Cu tavernele de pe marginea mării, unde, seara, poţi sta cu o porţie de calamari, creveţi prăjiţi sau scoici. Berea pe care vă sfătuiesc să o luaţi e Alfa, alegere mult mai bună decât Mythos (care e un „mit“ cam răsuflat). Spre deosebire de ea, Alfa are gust (dintre berile loco). Dar puteţi face şi experimente, mai ales că berea e un mit important pentru un bărbat: de pildă, Mythos red ar fi o alegere şi bună, şi rafinată. Ca să nu ne cărăm după noi calabalâcuri, ne-am luat, cu opt euro, o umbrelă grecească de plajă. Greşeală, n-am ştiut că umbrelele greceşti de plajă sunt mai gracile (& fragile) decât florile: se deschid numai de cinci ori. A cincea oară, tentativa se încheie remiză. Cred că mizează pe faptul că ai simţul umorului, dacă eşti balcanic.

Pe limba souvlakiilor

Da, dar cel mai bine ne-am înţeles cu souvlaki-urile. În ţepuşă. Când sunt fripte. Alături trânteşti o porţie babană de cartofi prăjiţi – şi gata masa pe plajă sau, de ce nu, pe terasele tavernelor, acolo unde gazda are grijă, invariabil (aşa se poartă în Creta!) să îţi scoată cupa/halba de la gheaţă. Când toarnă berea în ea, gheaţa adunată pe pereţii recipientului gol se raşchetează într-un mod de-a dreptul orgasmatic, de-ţi vine să examinezi operaţiunea cu lupa colegului nostru de la corectură, Pompi. Aşa că, oricât de caldă ar fi berea, ea se frapează abrupt, ca o cascadă din Himalaya. Mâna îţi îngheaţă de-a dreptul pe halbă. Şi, aha, musai, trebuie să îţi procuri un desfăcător de mâini de pe halbe. Care să îţi desprindă, eventual, numai mâna. Cu condiţia să o amputeze curat de restul. Sigur o să-ţi cadă doi dinţi, datorită acestei alternanţe de temperaturi. Dar vei fi fericit. Şi asta e important. Numai asta. Cel mai mult mie îmi plac plimbările în lungul plajelor prin apa până la genunchi. Şi pe ţărmul nordic al Cretei, unde am fost, chiar le poţi face, pentru că: 1. apa e curată şi limpede, translucidă, de-ţi poţi număra degetele de la picioare (mai ales în cazul în care ai uitat câte sunt); 2. nisipul e fin şi brun, aşa, maroniu închis, cum n-ai mai văzut pe la noi şi nici în altă parte, te gâdilă la picioare, ca libidoul; 3. nu vei da de pietre, nici în apă, nici afară, chiar de mergi kilometri întregi (cam vreo cinci, cât am mers eu, bineînţeles, dus-întors). Buun! Acum să explicăm ce înseamnă Creta Rurală – şi care e farmecul ei. Are câini vagabonzi, ca la noi, n-are trotuare (ce le trebe lor, la sate, trotuare, ca să le facă? în nici un caz!).

Creta, adică Grecia de la tine de-acasă

Creta Rurală înseamnă şi preţuri ca la noi, uscăciune, ciulini, mărăcini, dar înseamnă şi Aghios Pelaghios, acolo unde ţărmul se înalţă, când te apropii de Fodele, care nu e la marginea drumului, ci vreo şapte kilometri mai departe. Şi încep să devină evidente în peisaj, să se sublinieze siluetele livezilor cu măslini. Întâlneşti piersici răzleţi, portocali pitici cu tot cu fructul lor în ei, de unde poţi să îl culegi cu mâna. Portocalele sunt mai verzi, încă nu de tot pârguite, dar asta e bine, au un gust puţin diferit, gust de Creta pură. Am stat la mai multe hoteluri, printre care, în Herakleion şi Ammoudara, GEORGIA şi SUN HOTEL. Din Creta vin strămoşii mei, aşa că am să fiu subiectiv. Patronul de la SUN HOTEL, un bărbat pe la 55-58 de ani, îmbrăcat invariabil în negru (cămaşă+pantalon de stofă, fin), cu mătănii în mâini, pe care le frământa tacticos, avea o mustaţă splendidă, uriaşă, sură. Semăna cu unchiul meu din poze, Theodorakis Constantinos, bizantinul, filistinul. Iar patroana de la Georgia se chema, simplu, Georgia. Sau Doamna Georgia. Luam micul dejun pe terasă, pe fotoliile şi la masa împletite din răchite (negre, încep să zboare, ca noaptea asta, ce va zbura). Tocmai ăsta e farmecul Cretei: e Grecia de la tine de-acasă. Aşa că nu o rataţi. Veţi fi ceva mai săraci. Şi mai trişti. Fiecare are o Creta în inimă. Aaa, am uitat să vă spun cine e Minotaurul. Dar, mai bine, nu vă spun. M-am răzgândit. Mai bine duceţi-vă şi vedeţi.
